Bob Marcucci Appointed Assistant Superintendent of Business Services
Posted 8/26/20

Dear San Rafael City Schools Community,

After an extensive search for a key administrator, San Rafael City Schools (SRCS) is pleased to announce that Bob Marcucci has been appointed as the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services by the Board of Education at their meeting on September 14. As a very well-known and respected leader in SRCS, we are fully confident that  Mr. Marcucci will be successful in this exciting new role.

Mr. Marcucci is a native of San Rafael, a proud product of SRCS and has been a teacher and administrator in the District for more than 23 years. He began his teaching days at Coleman Elementary and served as the principal at Laurel Dell Elementary and Glenwood Elementary before leading Davidson Middle School, where he has been the principal for the past six years. At first glance, it may seem that Mr. Marcucci does not necessarily “fit” the traditional profile of a school district business official. However, I firmly believe his broad base of experience fully qualifies him to successfully navigate this new endeavor. Furthermore, his tremendous knowledge of SRCS; immense personal and professional skills; and passion for serving our community make him the ideal candidate for this senior-level leadership position during this unique time for SRCS and public education when we have the opportunity to re-envision our current structures.

“I am very excited to continue my service to the students, staff and families of San Rafael City Schools in this new role,” Mr. Marcucci shared. “I have a deep respect for the departments and employees that provide services essential to the functioning of our schools, and I look forward to learning from and building upon the expertise of those in the Business Services Department and Superintendent's Cabinet. I am humbled and honored to be selected for this important leadership role. I will not let our community down.”

In July, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Doug Marquand provided us with advanced notice of his retirement, effective December 31, 2020. We are now capitalizing on this time to ensure a smooth and successful transition, as Mr. Marquand and Mr. Marcucci will work very closely over the next four months. I am also proud of our strong and knowledgeable Business Services department, which will complement what Mr. Marcucci brings to the team. Mr. Marcucci readily accepts new opportunities and challenges to learn and grow as a leader, while also demonstrating his loyalty and commitment to the District. He has continued his own professional development by recently completing the American Association of School Administrator’s Aspiring Superintendents Academy and he is currently participating in the Association of California School Administrators’ CBO Academy.

Throughout his career, Mr. Marcucci has gained deep knowledge and understanding of both school and District operations, and he has built trusting and collaborative relationships with the greater community, including our labor partners, students, families, and community partners, as well as his colleagues. He has consistently demonstrated strong organizational, administrative, managerial and fiduciary skills, and he has a clear understanding of District goals, priorities, policies and regulations. Mr. Marcucci has masterful communication skills, including as a fluent Spanish speaker, that are an asset for our diverse District. He is known for his strong work ethic and dependability, and he is also considered a thoughtful and conscientious leader who reflects on the situation at hand to reach the best decisions for our students.

Moreover, some of Mr. Marcucci’s most impressive and inspiring qualities are his passion for education in his local community and his unrelenting efforts to ensure all students have access to what they need to be successful. He understands the challenges and importance of equity and has the cultural competency and skills to address difficult issues on a daily basis. He has emerged as one of our District’s greatest transformational leaders and equity advocates.

Mr. Marcucci’s impact on the SRCS community thus far is clearly evident, and we very much look forward to the value he will bring as a member of our District’s leadership team and Cabinet.

We are also excited to announce that Susan Akram, who currently serves as an Assistant Principal, will take the reins as Davidson’s Interim Principal. Ms. Akram's experience at Davidson, her skilled communication and her talented fellow administrators will ensure that Davidson's students, staff and families are well cared for during this time of transition. We are planning to conduct an extensive, State-wide search for the principal position later this spring and will keep you updated.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Marcucci and Ms. Akram!

Sincerely,

Jim Hogeboom
Superintendent
